Workplace-Based Assessment in Health Sciences Education: A Comprehensive Training Program

This training program is specifically designed for health professions educators who are involved in designing, implementing, and managing workplace assessment at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Objectives:

Upon completing this program, participants will:

• Gain a comprehensive understanding of the evidence from the literature on the development of workplace-based assessment in health sciences education
• Develop a deeper understanding of the purposes of workplace-based assessment (WBA) and its significance in health sciences education
• Become familiar with a range of WBA tools and their applications in different settings
• Acquire knowledge of the literature on effective feedback and its role in WBA
• Develop essential skills in observation, scoring, and feedback in the workplace setting
• Gain valuable insights into managing systems of WBA, portfolios, and the strategic use of technology to enhance WBA

Course Structure:

The program consists of four modules, each tailored to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of WBA in health sciences education:

Module 1: Review of WBA Pedagogy

This module sets the foundation for the program, exploring the fundamental principles and concepts of WBA pedagogy in health sciences education.

Module 2: Using WBA Tools and Implementation and Management

In this module, participants will learn about the various WBA tools and their implementation and management in different settings.

Module 3: Feedback Principles and Observer Training

This module focuses on the principles of effective feedback and observer training, essential skills for successful WBA in health sciences education.

Module 4: Managing Systems of WBA

The final module delves into the management of WBA systems, portfolios, and the strategic use of technology to enhance WBA in health sciences education.
