Advancements in Small Bowel Bleeding Diagnosis

Endoscopic access to the small bowel has significantly improved since the introduction of video capsule endoscopy and deep enteroscopy in early 2000. This progress has been complemented by advances in imaging modalities, including computed tomography and magnetic resonance studies. As a result, the 2015 ACG guideline updated the terminology from “obscure” to “small bowel bleeding,” as most cases can now be traced back to a small bowel source.
