By Collectif, Philippe Grenier, this book provides a synthetic and relatively complete overview of the technical, semiological, and clinical aspects of thoracic imaging in adult pathology.
The first edition, published in 1988, emphasized the importance of fundamental anatomical and semiological principles of chest radiography, highlighting the emerging role of new imaging techniques, including computed tomography (CT) scans. The second edition in 1996 focused on the early results of high-resolution CT and volumetric spiral CT acquisition, as well as the introduction of metabolic imaging with positron emission tomography (PET) in research and clinical practice for tumoral and inflammatory diseases.
The third edition in 2006 underscored the significance of the new generation of multidetector scanners, which greatly improved the quality and precision of thoracic lesion analysis. This technological leap enabled the emergence of new indications for CT scans in thoracic pathology.
This latest edition has been significantly enriched with iconography, reporting on the progress made in CT and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technologies. All chapters have been updated with a thorough analysis of the literature, and international consensus recommendations for patient management are included.
The book’s structure remains faithful to its predecessors, divided into 23 chapters. The first six chapters cover techniques and normal radio-anatomy, while the next three chapters focus on the description and semiological analysis of radiographic and CT findings. The remaining 14 chapters discuss the results, limitations, and indications of various techniques in different areas of pleuropulmonary, vascular, bronchial, mediastinal, and parietal pathology.
This thoroughly updated fourth edition is poised to remain the reference book on thoracic imaging, written in French.
