Transforming Patient Care: Innovative Educational Programs for Women’s Health

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically transformed patient care, particularly in outpatient practice. As a result, our ambulatory environments have undergone significant changes, and telemedicine has become an essential strategy. However, the unique needs of women patients and women healthcare providers require innovative educational programs that focus on women’s health.

Our upcoming course, chaired by Dr. Robert B. Baron and moderated by UCSF’s best teachers, is designed to provide a practical, state-of-the-art update on a full range of common but controversial issues in women’s health. The impact of COVID-19 on women’s health, health disparities, and the care of vulnerable patients will be emphasized.

Target Audience

This course is designed for family physicians, internists, gynecologists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, and all others involved in providing quality healthcare for women.

  • Discuss and implement new guidelines for women for prevention and early detection of cancer with clinical exams, pap tests, HPV tests, genetic tests, diagnostic imaging, and colposcopy.
  • Discuss and implement new guidelines for women to prevent infectious diseases with public health approaches, vaccines, medications, screening tests, and counseling.
  • Diagnose and treat common and controversial problems in women’s health, including STIs, HIV, acute GYN issues, common cancers, osteoporosis, incontinence, anxiety, and depression, menopause, obesity, asthma, and COPD.
  • Diagnose and treat common skin conditions in women.
  • Counsel patients about treatment options in contraception and abortion.
  • Address common clinical concerns of older women.
  • Select the best diagnostic tests.
  • Evaluate and prescribe new medications.
